Playing Background:
Abou was recruited with a full soccer scholarship by the University of New Haven, NCAA Div II, Connecticut (1989-1993). As a versatile player, he led the team in scoring every year, while playing at different positions and was named 3 times in the All New-England Collegiate Conference (NECC) team. In 1992, he was invited and practiced with the Senegalese National Team ahead of their preparation for the African Nations Cup but opted to return to the US to finish his senior year of college and graduated with an engineering degree. After graduation in 1993, he was invited by Borussia Dortmund and later played for Charleville-Mezieres, a CFA II semi-professional team in France until 2000, while working for Delphi Europe.
Coaching Background:
From 2008 to 2011, Abou has been coaching in Michigan. In 2008-2009, he coached for Dearborn Soccer Club U-11 and U-14 boys select. In 2009-2010, he became the head coach for the Club’s High School boys Open and in 2011, promoted the squad to one of the finest U-16 premier level teams in Michigan, before he relocated to the Evanston area for job reasons.
Personal Info:
Abou was born in Dakar, Senegal and went to High School in Wales. He is now married and lives with his family in Evanston. Thanks to his soccer scholarship, Abou went on to earn a bachelor and a master’s degree in engineering and an MBA and now works for a major corporation in the Chicago area.
