Under perfect weather and great attendance from parents and players, the 2010 Coaches game was a great success. In a closely contested game, the Gray team edged the Red team 5-4 with the winning goal scored by Eric Erf. The game kicked off shortly after 6pm with the Red team having most of the possession and scoring chances early on. Despite going up 4-1, the Red team missed multiple scoring opportunities, most notably Issac Moushi’s 3-4 shots that hit a crossbar or a post, proving once again that he plays "the crossbar game" in practices way too much. With a three-goal lead and fatigue setting in, the Reds relaxed and sat back, which allowed the Gray team to take advantage and with no linesmen to call the offsides, the game was quickly tied at 4-4. With everything to play for, the Gray team organized a quick counter after yet another failed Red attack and this time JJ Ruane’s body roll tackles could not reach Paul Marnescu, aka "The Flying Romanian", who dribbled on the right flank and set up Eric Erf for a cool finish. In the end, the Reds were left scratching their head about what could have been, while the Grays celebrated in style and quickly got home to ice down. Perhaps it was the designated board member rule that gave the Grays the advantage, with Director of Development Scott Weyman’s distributing and controlling the midfield, while the Reds’ designated board member Boys Team Manager Coordinator Matt Tobin missed the game due to a back injury he picked up earlier in the week after practicing his bicycle kicks, see picture below. In conclusion, it was a great Team Evanston event and we thank everyone that came out to support the coaches. See you on the field!
